European Mining Education

FEMP supports high level education in Europe for the future leaders in the mining and related raw materials processing industry.

What is FEMP
The Federation of European Mineral Programs is a not-for-profit foundation created to support the education of MSc level students in the field of mineral engineering. There is a global shortage of highly educated minerals engineers, FEMP seeks to help bridge this gap by providing scholarships and industry collaboration.
European Mining Course
Established in 1996, leading the world in mining education The world recognised European Mining Courses (EMC) is offered as a triple degree master’s program. Our partner universities are RWTH Aachen, Aalto University and MU Leoben, they provide the highest level of mining education.
Critical Raw Minerals Act
The EU is aiming to ensure a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials for Europe’s industry. Critical raw materials are needed for the green and digital transitions. This means at least 10% of raw material and 40% of Processing will come from inside Europe along with 15% from recycling.
What is TERRA
Tertiary Education in sustainable Resource Extraction (TERRA) project is working to develop innovative learning and teaching methods and foster collaboration between universities. Building an Expert Network, and database of educational opportunities in Europe along with enabling teaching and research collaborations.

Careers
Gone are the days when mining and mineral processing industries were seen as dirt and low tech, today it is high tech, driving technology development with digitalisation, autonomous and electrified fleets to enable sustainable and ethical extraction and recycling necessary for the green deal and the energy transition.

Alumni
Over the past 25+ years, over 850 international students graduated from EMC or one of the other FEMP study programs. These alumni are now helping to lead the mining and mineral processing industries forward, enabling sustainable, ethical and responsible extraction, processing and recycling of critical raw materials, needed for the energy Transition.

Why choose the EMC

The Green Deal and Critical Raw Materials Acts aim to make Europe’s supply of critical raw materials more sustainable and efficient, from Rare earth elements to Copper and Zinc, with new developments in recycling technologies, ethical and responsible extraction, to enable the energy transition and improve the quality of life and the environment in Europe and globally.

To make this happen we need to empower and educate the future leaders of the industry, giving them the tools to help drive this change.

Become part of the solution, through the EMC you will gain a Master’s degree from three renowned European Universities, the curriculum provides all the foundational knowledge you will need to gain a role in this exciting and necessary industry.
