European Mining Education

FEMP supports high level education in Europe for the future leaders in the mining and related raw materials processing industry.

What is FEMP
The Federation of European Mineral Programs is a not-for-profit foundation established to support the education of MSc level students in the field of mineral engineering. There is a global shortage of highly educated mineral engineers and FEMP aims to help bridge this gap through scholarships and industry collaboration.
European Mining Course
Established in 1996, the globally recognized European Mining Course (EMC) is a world leader in mining education and is offered as a triple degree master's program. Our partner universities RWTH Aachen, Aalto University and MU Leoben provide the highest level of mining education.
Critical Raw Minerals Act
The EU aims to ensure a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials for Europe's industry. Critical raw materials are needed for the green and digital transitions. This means that at least 10% of raw materials and 40% of processing will come from within Europe and 15% from recycling.
What is TERRA
Tertiary Education in sustainable Resource Extraction (TERRA) project is working to develop innovative learning and teaching methods and foster collaboration between universities. TERRA will build a network of experts and a database of educational opportunities in Europe, and facilitate teaching and research collaborations.

Careers
Gone are the days when mining and mineral processing were seen as dirty and low-tech, today it is a high-tech industry that is driving technology development with digitalization, autonomous and electrified fleets to enable sustainable and ethical extraction and recycling necessary for the Green Deal and the energy transition.

Alumni
Over the past 25+ years, more than 850 international students have graduated from EMC or one of the other FEMP programs. These alumni are now helping to advance the mining and mineral processing industries, enabling the sustainable, ethical and responsible extraction, processing and recycling of critical raw materials needed for the energy transition.

Why choose the EMC

The Green Deal and Critical Raw Materials Acts aim to make Europe's supply of critical raw materials, from rare earths to copper and zinc, more sustainable and efficient, with new developments in recycling technologies, ethical and responsible extraction, to enable the energy transition and improve the quality of life and the environment in Europe and globally.

To make this happen, we need to empower and educate the future leaders of the industry by giving them the tools to drive this change.

Become part of the solution, through the EMC you will gain a Master's degree from three renowned European universities, the curriculum will provide you with all the fundamental knowledge you need to gain a role in this exciting and necessary industry.
